Steel Church Building FAQ’s

Unfortunately we do not employee civil engineers, architects or MEP designers. We can however coordinate with and even help you find experienced civil design folks. For any steel building ordered through us we will handle all of the structural engineering and design/detailing of the building envelope. This includes energy efficiency analysis if necessary.

This is a question that we get a lot. The IBC has recommended that occupancy ratings be set no lower than 7 square feet per person for areas with concentrated use of seating or standing. In areas that don’t have concentrated seating, like classrooms or work areas, should have 36 square feet per person. This means, for 150 people at least 1050 square feet is needed for seating. Areas designed for other uses may need to be considerably larger.

The first thing to consider is that interior columns that support the building rafters only become economical on buildings when spans become greater than 60-70’ depending on roof loads. As the width or span of the building goes up so does the potential cost saving of adding interior columns. Many times these columns can be concealed within interior walls or in areas that don’t require uninterrupted clear space.

One of the best things for fundraising is to provide visuals of what the goal of the fundraising is. We can provide architectural renderings of the finished building project for your organization to use in its social media and other print advertising. These are professional renderings that present your ideas to your audience.
