Great Western Buildings

We will work with you to bring your perfect hangar into reality. Best of all, our metal building kits are designed with ease of construction in mind. So, you can spend less time building and more time in the air.

Great Western can design a hangar to support bi-fold, canvas, stackable, and hydraulic doors. In addition, we have partnerships with numerous hangar door manufacturers and can work in conjunction with them to provide you with a complete package delivered to you ready to erect. Should you prefer to use a hangar door manufacturer not within our network, we can also accommodate that preference. Simply provide the door’s measurements to your Great Western team members and we’ll handle the design from there. Our extensive knowledge of the International Building Code (IBC) ensures that your new building meets or exceeds the latest design standards. Our team’s expertise extends to understanding FAA requirements for building height and other restrictions, ensuring your building’s design complies perfectly.

Doors make a difference: Our team will ask to what door you’d like to use. For doors ranging from 40 to 100 feet in width, we recommend a bi-fold door from Schweiss, a provider of industry-standard aviation doors that our customers have historically had a great experience with. Under 40 feet, GWB has a host of overhead sectional garage door options that are durable and cost-effective. For doors beyond 100 feet, a stackable sliding door is likely best suited for your needs. Finally, we’ve designed buildings to support hydraulic doors from Higher Power with great results in the past. Not sure which door you need? No problem, our team of experts can help you figure out what fits your needs and budget.

Once our designers have all the necessary information, they’ll provide you with drawings and a detailed quote so you have a feasible number to work with in moving forward with your project.

FAQs

This is dependent on the type and size of your selected door. In most cases, hydraulic and bi-fold doors require three to five feet of space on either side of the door. This allows for proper framing of the structure. Of course, if you’re after more space on either side of the door, we can certainly accommodate.

In our experience, if your hangar door is in the 40 to 100-foot range a bi-fold door like the ones from Schweiss makes for the simplest and most cost-effective approach. They’re proven and durable, so it is typically our recommendation. A hydraulic door from Higher Power is also a great and affordable option. However, if you’re after a door wider than 100 feet, a stackable sliding door assembly is likely best suited for your needs. For hangar doors under 40 feet, we typically recommend sectional overhead garage doors, depending on location and wind load requirements.

Absolutely! Great Western has experience working with various quality door manufacturers that provide a variety of door types. Simply present your Great Western team members with the height, width, and style of your desired door and we’ll present options to satisfy your needs.
