Metal Building Prices: How Much Does A Steel Structure Cost?

We strive to offer our customers the best value and quality in the industry. That’s why we provide you with factory-direct pricing from our manufacturing facility. However, metal building prices can fluctuate substantially based on the complexity and requirements of each building and its location.

In general, a Great Western steel building kit costs between $15 and $20 per square foot. After considering delivery, erection, and concrete, you can expect to spend around $25 to $45 per square foot for a ready-to-use metal building.

What Affects Steel Building Prices?

The overall cost of a steel building kit depends on several factors. Simply put, the more material used, the more expensive your building will be. Areas that require buildings to have robust roofs for high snow loads or reinforcement for high wind loads will naturally increase the cost of the building due to the added material for the structure.

In addition, features like mezzanines for second floors, extra roof support for industrial hooks, overhangs, eave extensions, and countless other features can increase the overall cost of your metal building kit.

Below are some factors that will affect your base steel building kit price.

Door Selection, Windows, and Openings

Framed openings are added to your building design wherever you intend to put doors or windows and require additional metal compared to a standard wall design. So, the size and amount of doors and windows on your building will play an important role in your overall pricing.

Of course, the cost of the doors themselves must also be taken into consideration. Most buildings we design feature both personnel doors and sectional garage doors. However, many more significant projects and buildings require commercial-grade roll-up or hangar doors.

Here are some ballpark estimates for door prices:

  • Personnel Doors: $450 – $850
  • Sectional Garage Doors: $900 – $4,000
  • Roll-up Doors: $1,200 – $5,000
  • Bi-Fold or Hydraulic (Hangar) Doors: $10,000+

Window prices vary depending on their size and grade, but typically, one should expect to spend between $200 and $700 per window.

Other Factors that Affect Your Steel Building Kit Price

All of the following materials affect the price of your building, and as is the case with everything else, the size of your building and the added features dictate how much material is necessary.

  • Insulation
  • Gutters and Downspouts
  • Windows and Doors (see above)
  • Lean-Tos and Mezzanines
  • Ventilation Systems (Cupolas, Active Vents)

How Much Do Metal Buildings Cost? Considerations for Turnkey Totals

The base cost of your building is one thing, but the costs of delivery, erection, permits, and more can fluctuate massively. Of course, these prices also depend on whether you’re hiring and bringing in an erection crew or putting up your building yourself. Concrete sourcing, DIY work, interior features and buildouts, delivery, and more significantly affect the total cost of your building project. Here are more costs to take into consideration.

A couple of our customers have graciously shared their overall building costs with us to publish and give you a rough idea of what your total buildout will cost. Click below to see those price breakdowns:

Delivery

The base cost of delivery for a Great Western Building is $1,250. In addition, there is a charge of $3.65 per mile from our facility in Grand Junction, Colorado. The distance from our facility to your location is the key to getting an accurate freight cost.

Customers are welcome to arrange their own transportation if they prefer. We’re happy to work with you and your own freight company to get your building delivered.

How Much Do Metal Buildings Cost? Considerations for Turnkey Totals

Beyond the scope of your building kit and delivery, here are the major components that make up the overall cost of your complete metal building.

  • Site Clearing and Preparation (soil testing, grading, etc.)
  • Concrete Slab Footing and Pour
  • Local Permitting Fees
  • Land Surveying
  • Labor Costs (erection crew, concrete crew, etc.)

Alternate Siding, Roof Systems, and Interior Finishing

Finally, finishing your building to your satisfaction inside and out can bring the total cost of your project up quite substantially. Metal buildings can support traditional sidings like vinyl, wood, brick, veneer, Stucco, and plank siding. Traditional tile and shingle roofs can also be used to meet your preferences or HOA standards. Naturally, adding these siding and roof systems to your building incurs additional material and labor costs after erecting the base metal building.

Finally, depending on your intended use for your steel building from Great Western, the interior buildout has the potential to be the most expensive aspect of your whole project. A wide-open garage or storage building will cost very little to complete on the inside. However, buildings with many interior walls and electrical buildout, like residential buildings, commercial storefronts, and churches, cost much more.

It’s important to remember that a Great Western building is just a building kit. Interior and aftermarket siding or other additions will incur additional costs that Great Western cannot estimate.
