We recently paid a visit to Kurt, a Great Western customer in Nebraska who built one of the most unique and attractive barndominiums we’ve ever seen! The 48x60x17 building features a multi-story layout with a full interior living space, kitchen, conference room, and even a 20 x 60 RV bay that can be opened on both ends and used for large gatherings. Indeed, this is one of the best examples of effective and creative use of space. Furthermore, it stands as a phenomenal example of how one can take a Great Western steel building and turn it into whatever one’s heart desires.
Kurt explains that the property the building is on is an island surrounded by flowing water, which is what attracted him to the location in the first place. The interior features a three-bedroom and three–bathroom two-story living space and a complete kitchen with quartz countertops,
“We added that second story in the living area to give us a bunk house where we’ve got two queen beds up there, another shower, and a little getaway place for my office,” Kurt told GWB.
If you look closely throughout the tour, you’ll notice that there is a glass-panel overhead door inside the building and doors on either side of the RV bay.
“One of the things I really like most about this is you can open the whole building up, and it makes a giant U shape, so you can use it for lots of different purposes, whether it’s a wedding, whether it’s a big family gathering, whether you’re just trying to get people in out of the snow and park cars in here, it’s a little bit of everything,” said Kurt.
As with any major project, some issues did arise. However, Kurt reports that the GWB team was helpful and worked with him to resolve his issues.
“Eric Beavers did a great job. We ran into a couple of bumps in the road, and he was spot on. I mean, he resolved the issues, and we got them taken care of,” said Kurt.
He wanted to give a special shoutout to Anna-Christina, a Great Western team member who helped ensure the building and components were exactly what he wanted. He also gave a shoutout to Dead On Steel Erectors, the crew that erected his building in just 10 days.
Kurt’s building is definitely one of the most creative and uniquely laid-out buildings we’ve seen to date. We’re more than happy to have been a part of it and are thrilled that he was pleased with not only our building but also our customer service. We love seeing a plan come together!
