Opting for a steel building for your Barndominium project does not mean that you’re limited to the looks of a steel building. We’ve covered many products that use more traditional residential siding and roofing systems in the past. However, this phenomenal Barndominium is a cross between a steel building and a traditional cabin. Scott, the owner of the building, graciously interviewed with us to discuss this beautiful blend of modern and traditional construction techniques.
While this building does wear steel siding, it’s immediately clear that it’s far more than just a shop with a bit of living space. It has a gorgeous and welcoming front porch with a fire pit out front, rocking chairs on the deck, and a beautiful front door that genuinely invokes feelings of entering a cozy home.
“I had an idea of wanting to build a cabin and, you know, did a lot of research and stuff and really decided on going with metal buildings. Once you get on the inside, you’re going to see it doesn’t really look like a metal building at all,” said Scott.
Inside, the building is nothing short of stunning. It’s a multi-story layout incorporating white pine walls and structures that genuinely give the feel of an authentic log cabin. However, this hybrid construction allows Scott to reap the benefits of a steel building compared to a wooden structure. You really can have your cake and eat it, too!
Scott sketched out the entire interior design of his building on notebook paper before he made it a reality. He likes to be very hands-on with the design aspect of his projects, and that’s one of the reasons he chose to go with GWB.
“One of the things I really liked was the fact that, on their website, I could go in and actually design the exterior of the building…my specifications as to what I wanted to have,” said Scott.

Scott says that he took the erection of the building step by step and kept tackling away at things to get them the way he wanted. From the wraparound porch with an outdoor kitchen and seating to the beautifully designed interior, he seems to be happy with how it came out! Understandably so!
“I will tip my hat to Eric and his team. Eric just went out of his way to make sure that I was accommodated and that they fulfilled everything that they had promised me. I could not have been more pleased with my experience with Great Western Buildings,” Said Scott
Scott’s cabin Barndominium is undoubtedly one of our favorite customer projects to date. There are plenty of examples of barndos that powerfully exemplify the flexibility of a steel building in its residential uses. However, Scott’s building stands out among the crowd, to say the least. It’s one of the best representative structures of how a metal building kit can be the ultimate blank canvas to achieve just about anything one could imagine. We’re thrilled to hear that he enjoyed his experience with GWB and couldn’t be prouder to have been a part of this phenomenal barndominium project!
