Couples Retirement Barndo

A Retreat for Now, Retirement Later

"This is our own paradise...we're more than happy with our final product."

This project is another great example of a building using more traditional residential siding thanks to its brick veneer.  This phenomenal Barndominium belongs to our customers, Cindy and Jay Harryman from Merino, Colorado. The Harrymans were nice enough to conduct an interview with us and allow us into their retirement retreat to tell us all about their building and their experience with Great Western Buildings.

A Slippery Slope

Cindy told GWB that they had an old, rotting granary on their property that they wanted to replace with a building that could serve as more of a “general use” facility. She told GWB that the plan is for the building to be everything from an event center to heavy machinery storage. Thanks to the wide-open itnerior of a steel building, the Harrymans can maximize the usability of the building’s footprint to do just that!

Cindy describes the “slippery slope” of adding to the interior of their Great Western steel building kit. She says that they eventually see it as a place to retire. So, although it’s more universal at the moment, it does have a future as a barndominium than it already is.

“We started finishing the inside. We thought, well, let’s put a bathroom in here so we have some utilities, and it just kept snowballing and snowballing and snowballing…we’ve now got a very nice place that we can entertain,” said Cindy.

With stylish lightning, a full kitchen, a gorgeous bathroom, and a wide-open usable space still retained in the center, this building truly is a perfect all-rounder.

Why Did You Choose GWB?

“We found GWB online and visited their facility in Grand Junction, Colorado. We met with Ryan Travers, who gave us a tour so we could see the materials and the quality of everything we’d be using. We were sold when we left and said, ‘Let’s do it, let’s get a contract set up,'” Cindy told GWB.

Cindy and Jay hired out an erection crew to put their building up. She says that the crew had all of the foundation and erection done by early December and then handed it over to her and Jay for the interior customization. She took time on video to thank Eric and Ryan here at GWB, as well as her family, who have helped along the way. We’re happy to have been of help!
