About Great Western Building Systems
Our specialty is pre-engineered steel buildings, and we supply a wide variety of materials and accessories to make your project special. Many factors impact the price of your building. Hurricane prone and high wind load areas will require a stronger building so it can withstand the regular forces it will endure. If you are planning to build in an area that gets a lot of snow (and particularly an area with a lot of heavy snow) your project will be designed and engineered to withstand these loads. Your local building authority will have standard requirements for your area, and our engineers will custom design your building to meet or exceed the codes and loads you specify. Earthquakes must also be considered when engineering a building, and our designs can be reinforced to meet building requirements for seismically active areas of the country. Each of these factors will affect the price of your building - in general the stronger the forces your building must withstand, the amount of steel used will increase along with the price.
Advantages of Metal Buildings
One advantage of steel is that it can provide large clear span areas that are ideal for use as warehouses, horseback riding arenas, and airplane hangars. The larger the clear span space (space without interior support columns) the stronger the building supports will need to be. This factor will also increase the cost per square foot. Our building consultants will help you create a beautiful design that takes advantage of steel’s properties and provide you with an efficient solution to meet your clear span needs.
Our buildings include Purlin Bearing Rib panels, but many of our customers choose insulated panels for their high performance insulation and ease of installation. We also provide many standing seam roof options which are especially effective for larger projects.
Insulated panels are highly recommended especially for commercial applications. Many of our customers purchase buildings for themselves to use as a shop, riding arena, garage, airplane hangar, or to convert into a home. For smaller projects insulated panels are not the most cost effective option so we supply batt and blanket metal building insulation. These insulation packages supply a vapor barrier and protect your metal building investment, and then you can choose the appropriate thickness for the climate conditions and desired efficiency. Customers in less extreme climates usually select compression options ranging from three to six inches thick. These packages are installed with the polypropylene facing the interior of the building, and the the panels are screwed down and the insulation is compressed between the girts or purlins and the panels.
High R Value Options
If a higher R-value is desired or required by your building authority, we offer premium double layer insulation options. These packages included a portion of insulation that is compressed between the girts or purlins and the panels, and then second layer that is installed on the interior of the girts and purlins. In addition to the increase in thermal efficiency for your building, the interior has a nice finished look.
Windows come in standard sizes and can slide open horizontally or vertically. These windows install directly into the panels, and allow you to choose the exact placement at the jobsite. Each comes with a half screen.
Commercial grade overhead and rollup doors can be ordered with a multitude of options. Many customers want 12’ x 12’ overhead doors, but we supply from 7’ up to 20’. Overhead and Rollup doors can be ordered without without insulation, as well as with options for high wind load areas.
Premium trims are also included standard on all our buildings, and we also a broad spectrum of accessories. The majority of our customers purchase walk doors and windows, as well as overhead doors. The walk doors and windows are all self framing and self flashing and are placed and installed at the job site. Overhead doors include framed openings, and can be purchased with rows of windows, full glass, high lift and other options to ensure adequate light and clearance for whatever your building needs.
Usually customers like to have one or two standard three foot by seven foot walk doors. People who are building larger projects also order double doors which are six foot by seven foot. You can order these with a solid steel door, a narrow window, or half glass. We also supply commercial full glass doors with sidelites if you are planning to create a storefront.
