Seth, one of our awesome customers out in Cheyenne, Wyoming, was kind enough to spend some time with us to showcase his completed Great Western Building. He wanted an all-around garage/shop to work on his collection of project cars and to work on dirt bikes, snowmobiles, and other powersports projects with his family. With the attached lean-to and multiple overhead doors, this shop is a stunning example of how much utility comes in a relatively small footprint with a steel building!
Building in Laramie County, Wyoming requires engineering that can handle extreme high-plains winds and heavy winter snow loads. This custom 40′ x 60′ x 14′ steel workspace was engineered by Great Western Buildings to meet or exceed local Cheyenne, WY building codes.

Seth worked with his friends in similar trades alongside his wife and family to erect their building themselves. He says that elements of our website and the easy of assembly thanks to Great Western’s Bolt-Together Building Systems influenced his decision to go with GWB as a source for his new shop building.
“You guys have a fantastic aspect within your website where you can actually go in and look at the details, everything is color coded…this is where every panel, this is where every structure beam, this is how it’s actually supposed to wrap…completely user friendly for the home gamer. It’s a giant erector set for an adult,” Seth told GWB.
He went on to say that anyone with a basic construction background would have no problem erecting their own Great Western steel building kit.
“It’s really truly no different than building a Lego set, it’s just bigger,” said Seth.
Seth wanted to install a two-post car lift inside the shop that was taller than the overhead door itself. So, he landed on the clever solution of installing the overhead door’s tracks at an angle to match the roof slope and allow for additional clearance for vehicles on the lift. A very elegant solution!
In addition, Seth reports the only issue he had with his building was the lack of transition between the lean-to and the exterior wall of the primary building. As a solution, he landed on getting custom-made trim elements to bridge the gap between the structures and, as he put it, make it look “more complete.” We think he did an excellent job at executing exactly that!
Seth’s building is a classic look at what a metal building can be for those looking to add a garage or shop to their property. The substantial overhead clearance from the roof pitch and uninterrupted interior space from clear-span framing leaves wide-open floor space for just about any use. Whether you’re installing four and two-post lifts throughout like Seth did, or plan on keeping everything at floor level, the open-space of a Great Western Building is the ultimate solution for a workspace.
