Time really flies! Here at Great Western Building Systems, we’re celebrating five years of producing our DIY-friendly, pre-engineered bolt-together steel buildings in Grand Junction, Colorado. We take pride in manufacturing our buildings 100% in America with American steel. Moreover, we’re proud to be a part of the local community of the Western Slope here in Grand Junction. We’ve hit some substantial milestones since we first started production here in 2021.
With the substantial supply chain limitations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Great Western was facing severe delays in shipping and delivery of customer buildings. As a result, the company opted to face the problem head-on and take manufacturing into our own hands. In mid 2021, Great Western Buildings acquired the former Grand Junction Steel facility and moved our HQ from Denver to immediately begin outfitting the building for in-house production. Within a few months of taking possession of the building, we proudly shipped our first customer building from the facility.
Since that first building shipped, a lot has changed. We have worked hard over this past half-decade to bring as much of our building manufacturing in-house as possible. We’re proud that, as of August 2026, nearly 100% of our building components are manufactured right here by the all-star Grand Junction team. With the addition of a brand new purlin line only niche and seldom used components are now outsourced. Otherwise, you can take pride in knowing that every component of a Great Western Buildings steel building kit was manufactured by the hands of hard-working Americans right here in Colorado.

Stepping into the present, we’ve now processed over 2,000 building orders at the Grand Junction facility. In 2026, Great Western’s Grand Junction facility has processed over 1,200 tons (2.4 million pounds) of steel. This surpasses the entirety of our 2025 calendar year production, and we’re working to ensure lead times are minimized without sacrificing our attention to detail and quality control.
Without the welcoming community here in Grand Junction, none of this would be possible. We proudly employ over 90 individuals at our Grand Junction facility, and we’re thankful every day that we get to work with the finest folks the Western Slope has to offer. Of course, we also want to extend a massive thank you to our wonderful customers, partners, and the employees at our Denver facility.
