This detail and animation show the installation of an upper girt in a condition that requires the girt to attach to a rafter rather than to a vertical column. This girt can be installed before or after the installation of the roof purlin that is shown in the detail.
For installation, you will need:
The CL-109 Clip has a different hole spacing on each end. The narrower spacing attaches to the rafter, and the wider spacing attaches to the girt. 1/2″ Washers should be used with the bolts on the girt side, and the washers should be installed against the girt rather than against the clip.
Washers are not required where the clip attaches to the rafter, but you may choose to use them.
Tip: While it may make sense to install the CL-109 clip to the girt on the ground before attaching it to the rafter, it will make installation easier to attach the CL-109 clip to the rafter using the CL-109 clip to support the girt while it is bolted into place.
