Clay Shannon, a Great Western Buildings customer from California, and his wife decided to bring their dream building out of their thoughts and into reality. With space for virtually any hobby or discipline you could imagine, from rock climbing to woodworking, this building is the epitome of the flexibility of a steel building. Clay and his wife went with a fairly simple 40 x 50 foot steel building kit from GWB. The building features an eve with gutters and downspouts, two overhead doors on the front, one large enough to support an RV, and a handful of windows and man doors. Other than that, it’s a fairly basic shape. Therein lies the beauty of this project, though. Looks can be deceiving, and on the inside, it’s a real party!
Clay and his wife installed an adjustable rock climbing wall, a full bar with drinks on tap, a pinball machine, a full office with a restroom, and even a golf simulator! On top of that, it acts as the perfect space to store their relatively-recently-purchased RV. In addition, the building has a full woodworking shop inside.
It just goes to show that the interior possibilities are virtually limitless with the wide-open clear-span interior of a steel building. If you can dream it, a Great Western Buildings steel building kit can fit it!
Clay said that him and his wife were put “out of their comfort zone” when it came to the construction of their building. However, with good plans, help of some friends, and the industry-leading Great Western Buildings erection manual, they ultimately managed to put the building together without much issue.
“First and foremost, I want to thank my wife for putting up with me and letting me do this. She gave me a lot of help and it took us both a little bit out of our comfort zone,” said Shannon. “Her sister and her sister’s husband helped me suffer through some of the coding and figure out some of that stuff.”
Beyond his wife and family, Clay thanked a local friend for coming to assist with the construction of the building. Ultimately, we think it came out phenomenal!
