This detail shows the connection of a cold-rolled interior column to a Rigid-Frame Rafter at an end wall. The roof purlin, also shown in the detail, is just shown for orientation.
The clip that is pre-welded to the rafter should be placed on the outside of the column web and the open face of the column typically points down slope. This clip is typically slotted to allow for rafter deflection at the column (not shown in the animation). A flat washer needs to be installed on the slotted side of the clip with the bolt.
In some scenarios, this column will be used as a structural component supporting the roof rafter and as a door jamb for a garage door or other opening. If being used as a door jamb on the right side of the opening to the left of the building peak this column should be towed upslope.
What you will need:
Tip:
1. The column should be placed prior to the roof rafter being raised
2. Based on anchor bolt accuracy, it may make sense to install the rafter with the clip on the inside of the column. This will effectively move the column ¼” towards the peak of the roof. This should only be done if the corner columns are perfectly plumb.
