“Very impressed with it and definitely would buy another building”
Rick, a Great Western customer from Granby, Colorado, is the president of his local Experimental Aircraft chapter in Granby, Colorado. He was in need of a hangar that not only could support two aircraft, but could also support hosting breakfasts and events for the Young Eagle and Eagle programs for kids and teenagers interested in pursuing a career in aviation.
Rick outlined all the details of his building in an interview with GWB. In the interview, he went into detail about the specs of insulation, its intended uses, and more!
“It’s a 72 by 40-foot building. It’s insulated for our cold temperatures here in Granby, Colorado and it has R25 on the walls and R49 on the ceiling. This hangar can easily take two low-wing airplanes, or a high-wing and a low-wing in the size of the 201 Mooney that I fly,” said Rick.
He went on to explain that he purchased a bi-fold door from our friends at Schweiss, and it, too, is fully insulated. Though this building is a hangar for storing and protecting aircraft, it does serve another purpose.
“We have a chapter here that meets once a month and we promote aviation for the kids that fly in the Young Eagle program and the older kids flying in the Eagle program…We needed a hangar for our airplane behind me and we also needed a facility to do the pancake breakfast,” said Rick
The breakfast he is referring to is an event in which they park all of their aircraft out on the ramps and those interested in aviation to see the planes up close. During the event, they cook and serve over 1,400 pancake breakfasts.
“After 42 years of commercial and residential building in my background and after 12 different people that we looked at supplying the building, we decided to go with Eric (founder of Great Western Buildings) and his product. I’m very impressed with the way Eric handled the process and you really can see a difference,” said Rick.
He went on to say that the erection process was quick and smooth thanks to Great Western’s meticulous detailing and pre-engineering. We strive to make our buildings straightforward to ensure a painless construction process, and we’re more than happy to hear that Rick’s experience reflects that goal.
Rick’s hangar is a fantastic example of the myriad of uses of a metal building. Even if it’s built with one intention in mind, like storing aircraft, it can serve just about any use courtesy of its clear-span framing leaving all sorts of interior space.
