“It’s a quality product. No doubt about it.”
This building is one of the largest Great Western has produced to date. With two separate structures measuring 140 x 80 and 96 x 48 feet, this project was no small undertaking. Aside from its sheer size, it has some extremely unique attributes. Great Western spoke with KC, the owner of Hammer MTN Construction, who erected this phenomenal project, to get some insight into the buildings’ details and what the construction experience was like.
KC told us that the customization and size of this project make it an outstanding project in his career. In total, nine truckloads of steel made their way to the job site in rural Washington. Additionally, a whole truckload of doors was required, and two more truckloads brought the vast amount of insulation required for this project. On top of that, the project needed over 500 yards of concrete to pour the foundation. KC says the size and amount of materials presented the biggest challenge, as he only runs a four-man crew.
“It’s not your typical steel building…the logistics of it was tough, being out here in the middle of nowhere. You know, 54 minutes to the lumber yard that may or may not have what you need,” said KC.
He went on to say that his four-man crew took over 150 working days from start to finish. Truth be told, with that small of a crew, that is a truly impressive turnaround time for the remarkable size of this project.
KC stated that this was his first time erecting Great Western Buildings products. He went on to say that GWB was very helpful throughout the process of erecting these two buildings.
“I’ve done quite a few custom buildings, and typically, the weak point is the plans. That was not the case here…everything was here that was supposed to be here. There was a few items that weren’t on the plans and were not here, and, you know, we worked through it with Eric to solve the problem. It happens on every job no matter who designs it or supplies it. When we had problems arise…he solved it…he just sent them out,” said KC.
Furthermore, he stated that the series of GWB videos and working directly with Eric Beavers (the founder of GWB) were extremely helpful.
“We did a couple of video conferences over the phone, you know, (he would) send me pictures, walk me through this and that, and it worked out. What he does send out is a quality product. No doubt about it,” said KC.
Overall, this project is one we are truly proud of. From the sheer size to the crazy customizations like 19 overhead doors, some fixed in place to act solely as windows, it truly is a sight to behold! We’re ecstatic that this project came to us, and we’re happy that the customer and the erection crew were satisfied with the Great Western Buildings products.
